ACCRA, Ghana (ChurchMilitant.com) - African Catholic bishops are challenging homosexual indoctrination emerging from the West.

At a gathering Monday of West African Catholic bishops in the Ghanese capital of Accra, several prelates decried the imposition of the homosexual agenda on the African people by Western nations, particularly the United States. The meeting occurred a day before the scheduled second plenary assembly of the Regional Episcopal conference of West Africa.

During a press conference following the preliminary gathering, Cdl. Theodore Sarr, archbishop emeritus of Dakar in Senegal, warned Africans to be wary of attempts from Western countries to promote so-called gay marriage. "Beware. ... [W]e are living in a world where the Western world, especially the Americans, behave like people who have to think for the rest of the world," the prelate stated. "They have to decide for the rest of the world, but we say that no, you can't decide for the rest of the world."

The Western world, he claims, is "losing its faith."

The cardinal, current president of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa, reminded Africans they have their own "culture, traditions and so we need to avoid the several limitations of the Western world" and instead must "do things based in our traditions, our practices and customs."

Bishop Anthony Borwah, a member of the bishops' conference of West Africa, recently visited ChurchMilitant.com and spoke with Michael Voris on the state of the Church in Africa.

His Eminence also noted that while the African people "cannot condemn people who are homosexuals," they also "cannot promote homosexual marriages because God created male and female for procreation, so the Divine Order must be respected."

The 16 bishops will join another 150 individuals, including archbishops, bishops and various Church leaders, at today's second plenary assembly of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa, with scheduled topics of discussion to include reconciliation, development and family life.
