BALTIMORE (ChurchMilitant.com) - The so-called climate crisis is based on fraud and easily disproved, according to Alex Newman, an international journalist with a global reputation for hard-hitting reporting.

A featured speaker at the Deposit of Faith Coalition press conference in Baltimore and founder of Liberty Sentinel, Newman declared on Nov. 14 that he could disprove the whole climate change narrative without science. He said he could do it simply by looking at the 50 years of predictions climate activists have made and how they have come to naught.

"Every one of their predictions massively overestimated what would happen to temperatures," he said in his speech titled "Climate Fearmongering and Lies: A Recipe for Tyranny."

To set the stage, he asked viewers to consider the varying slogans activists have used in the past decades: from global cooling to global warming to climate change, to climate crisis and now the so-called climate hell. 

The award-winning journalist chronicled some of the doomsday predictions climate alarmists have put forth over the last 50 years, exposing the falsehoods of each one.

• In 1970, a false narrative warned of a coming "ice age." University of California ecology professor Kenneth Watt warned in 1970: "If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but 11 degrees colder by the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us in an ice age."
• In 1971, Stanford University professor Paul Ehrlich, author of The Population Bomb, issued a death knell for the United Kingdom: "By the year 2000, the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people. If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000 and give ten to one that the life of the average Briton would be of distinctly lower quality than it is today."
• Regarding a 1975 Newsweek article warning of "global cooling," Newman noted that one of the "more spectacular solutions" proposed by the cooling theorists was "melting the arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot."
• By 1991, Newman pointed out, the narrative changed from the coming ice age to "global warming" in a publication issued by the Club of Rome, an influential climate crisis-minded think tank. It was then that the Club, consisting of a diverse array of leftist thought leaders, wrote: "To avoid the worst outcomes, global carbon emissions must be cut by half by 2030 and to zero by 2050 — an unprecedented task which requires bold and compelling action."
• In 2003, a U.S. Department of Defense report titled "An Abrupt Climate Change Scenario and Its Implications for United States National Security," claimed humanity was doomed. The foundation for the claim came from the premise that climate change was a "national security concern."
• In 2015, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) funded a study claiming half of glaciers are vanishing with 1.5 degrees of warming.

Newman stated that mainstream media have been the primary pushers of climate alarmism. He pointed to how in 2021, almost 500 leading establishment media outfits signed a statement promising to refer to a "climate emergency" instead of the more neutral "climate change."

Newman believes Americans, by and large, are not buying into the propaganda intended to instill fear and panic, noting a recent poll showing that fewer than half of Americans accept the man-made climate change hypothesis, despite politicians claiming everybody believes it.

Newman reasoned that, judging from such polls, the alarmists are seeing they are losing control of their narrative. As a result, they have resorted to partnering with Google, for example, to suppress what information goes out and control what information goes to the top of the searches. 

He also mentioned interviews he has done with reputable scientists who disagree with the claims climate alarmists are putting out. These include Drs. Richard Lindzen, Niklas "Nils"-Axel Mörner, William Happer and István Markó.

According to Newman, however, perhaps the most alarming feature of climate alarmism is its proponents framing it as "a new religion," something he describes as "blasphemous."

He pointed to the 2022 United Nations COP27 conference in Egypt, where leaders of various religions gathered in Sinai, London and Jerusalem to "repent" of their climate sins and unveil what one organizer described as an addendum to the Ten Commandments.

One of the so-called commandments reads: "Compassion means suffering with others — to feel the pain of the earth, of the poor, and of those who suffer the consequences of climate change. Opening our hearts to their pain will lead us to change."

Newman maintains the addition of a "third covenant," as it is being called, is "contrary to Christianity, Catholic doctrine [and] the Bible."

He points to the danger and immorality of alarmists using fear to manipulate individual freedom.

"Trying to terrorize people about their carbon emissions is wicked and needs to stop," he says.

The Deposit of Faith Coalition, for which Newman presented, involves religious and political conservatives partnering with scientists and climate experts to expose the fraud and misinformation that are weakening the American economy. The press conference called out Catholic bishops, who were meeting nearby as part of their fall Plenary Assembly, for advancing false climate narratives.
