DETROIT (ChurchMilitant.com) - CatholicVote, a faith-based advocacy group, is calling on Joe Biden — the Democratic Party's presumptive candidate for president — to speak out on a recent streak of anti-Catholic vandalism.

CatholicVote's president, Brian Burch, stated Thursday, "Catholic churches across America are literally burning, and Joe Biden has said nothing." He emphasized:

Leading members of the Democratic Party have fueled a climate of hate against Catholics and these attacks have now led to acts of vandalism and violence. These attacks on the Church raise serious questions about the commitment of Joe Biden, a self-professed Catholic, to stand up to the rising climate of anti-Catholicism across the country.

CatholicVote's statement came the same day as President Donald Trump accused Biden of being "against the Bible."

"I'm in favor of the Bible," President Trump remarked Thursday on the podcast Roadkill With Geraldo. "I'm in favor of Second Amendment. Biden is against all of those things. He's against oil, he's against the Bible — essentially against religion — but against the Bible, and he's against the Second Amendment."

Trump repeated this message Thursday during a visit to Ohio, claiming Biden will "hurt the Bible" and "hurt God."

Biden responded to Trump's remarks, "For President Trump to attack my faith is shameful."

The former vice president cast himself as a man of faith, adding, "Like so many people, my faith has been the bedrock foundation of my life: It's provided me comfort in moments of loss and tragedy, [and] it's kept me grounded and humbled in times of triumph and joy."

In early- to mid-July, there were multiple attacks around the country on Catholic churches and statues.

In San Francisco on June 19, protesters tore down a statue of St. Junípero Serra — a Franciscan friar who evangelized the natives in modern-day California, establishing a number of missions.

On July 11, a fire of unknown cause gutted the historic San Gabriel Mission in Los Angeles County.

The night of July 17–18, satanic symbols were sprayed on the exterior of St. Joseph Church in New Haven, Connecticut.

Anti-Catholic Positions

Biden claims to be a practicing Catholic, despite his support for abortion, homosexual "marriage" and transgenderism.

During a vice-presidential debate in 2012 against then-GOP candidate Paul Ryan, Biden insisted, "My religion defines who I am. And I've been a practicing Catholic my whole life."

But Biden went on to say that he would not "impose" on others the Catholic belief in unborn babies' right to life.

"I do not believe that we have a right to tell other people that women can't control their body," Biden remarked in reference to abortion.

Likewise, in April this year, Biden insisted that women must have access to abortion during the Wuhan virus pandemic, arguing, "Abortion is an essential health care service."

In October 2019, a priest in South Carolina denied Biden Holy Communion, citing Biden's stance on abortion. The priest explained, "Any public figure who advocates for abortion places himself or herself outside of Church teaching."

In 2016, then-vice president Biden officiated a same-sex "marriage" between two male White House staffers.

In January this year, Biden called transgenderism "the civil rights issue of our time."

When Biden was vice president, the Obama administration tried to force employers — even some religious organizations — to pay for their employees' contraceptives and abortifacients.

Presidential candidate Biden continues to push that anti-Catholic position.

Among those who fought against the Health and Human Services (HHS) contraception mandate were the Little Sisters of the Poor, an order of Catholic nuns.

The sisters had initial success in the U.S. Supreme Court in 2016, when the court allowed them to fall under a religious exemption to the HHS mandate.

Despite that ruling, the persecution continued, as states like Pennsylvania tried to remove the sisters' religious exemption status.

Then, on July 8 this year, the Supreme Court ruled 7–2 in favor of the Little Sisters of the Poor — and against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Biden says he plans to overturn that Supreme Court ruling and force organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor to pay for employees' birth control.
