The bishops of Michigan are calling out Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer after she defended abortion as "life-sustaining."
The bishops responded to the governor's comments: "Residents across the state have been forced to delay their non-emergency medical procedures due to the pandemic. Yet the governor insists that elective abortions continue, as she believes the procedure 'sustains life.' The logic is removed from reality: night is not day; war is not peace."
Michigan has been hit hard by the Wuhan virus, ranking sixth in the country for confirmed cases, and the state has been on lockdown for weeks.
But many view Gov. Whitmer's measures as going too far, infringing on personal liberty and killing small businesses while allowing marijuana dispensaries, liquor stores and abortion mills to stay open.
Michigan Catholics have gone without a public Mass for over a month now, after all seven dioceses put a ban on public liturgies for fear of spreading the virus.
Though glad to see their bishops take a pro-life stance, faithful Catholics in Michigan are still dismayed at the bishops' willingness to deny them Christ in the Eucharist.
