ROME (ChurchMilitant.com) - Pope Francis has been rushed to Gemelli Hospital in Rome after he complained of chest pains following his regular Wednesday audience.

Initial reports indicated the 86-year-old pontiff went to the hospital for a routine check up. Only a few hours later, however, the pope's complaints of chest pain were made public.

As a child, the pope had part of one of his lungs removed and in July 2021 he underwent surgery for diverticulitis. In June 2022, his trips to South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo were canceled due to knee complications.

Church Militant will continue to monitor the situation.
