WASHINGTON (ChurchMilitant.com) - After signing of executive orders Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump said he would be officially announcing his U.S. Supreme Court pick "next week."
On his fourth day in office, the president issued executive orders advancing the construction of the Keystone Pipeline and the controversial Dakota Access Pipeline, brought to national media attention last year after thousands of Native American protestors successfully blocked the proposed route, the Obama administration caving to their demands on December 4, when it announced it would stop construction and instead conduct an "environmental-impact survey."
With a stroke of the pen, Trump did away with Obama's directive Tuesday, ordering that the construction proceed. He also signed an executive order expediting environmental reviews for building projects, a process he criticized as slow and "extremely cumbersome."
"The regulatory process in this country has become a tangled-up mess," he commented.
Taking questions from media, he also remarked that he had a line-up of highly qualified candidates for the Supreme Court, and that he'd be making his announcement for the nominee "next week."
"We have outstanding candidates," he said, "and we will pick a truly great Supreme Court justice. And I'll be announcing it sometime next week."
