Once upon a time, Democrats supported immigration reform. In 2011, President Barack Obama maintained that illegal aliens have a responsibility to the U.S., saying "They have to admit that they broke the law, pay their taxes, pay a fine and learn English." He went on to say, "And they have to undergo background checks and a lengthy process before they can get in line for legalization."

This was just normal thinking until Trump took office, now it's considered part of a white supremacist, xenophobic and hate-filled political agenda.

The U.S. Catholic bishops have been critical of President Trump since his inauguration, slamming him for enforcing already-existing immigration laws that allowed millions of illegal migrants through the U.S. southern border.

They're parroting new Democrat immigration policies, while ignoring a country's right to make and enforce immigration laws.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him. Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens. (2241)

In July, Cdl. Daniel DiNardo, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), spoke out against federal crackdowns on illegal aliens, saying, "Enforcement actions like those anticipated this week by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency separate families, cause the unacceptable suffering of thousands of children and their parents and create widespread panic in our communities."

The U.S. Catholic bishops have been critical of President Trump since his inauguration, slamming him for enforcing already-existing immigration laws.

He adds, "I condemn such an approach which has created a climate of fear in our parishes and communities across the country."

And despite potentially tens of millions of illegal aliens taking advantage of taxpayer-funded services that could be used by citizens, the bishops continue to push the notion that it's Catholic teaching to allow unlimited immigration.
