Since the sexual revolution, the Catholic Church has been one of the last bastions defending sexual morals and the dignity of human life.

Church Militant's Aidan O'Connor takes a look at Catholic hierarchs sending some pretty mixed signals.

A group of medical experts is exposing errors present in a book recently published by the Pontifical Academy for Life.

In an open letter, nine professionals in health, fertility and family care from around the world called out the recent Vatican publication titled Theological Ethics of Life: Scripture, Tradition, Practical Challenges.

The book is a compendium from a theological seminar hosted in 2021 by the Pontifical Academy for Life.

The publication proposes that Catholics may resort to contraceptives.

Progressive prelate and president of the Academy for Life, Abp. Vincenzo Paglia, penned the book's introduction, writing that the work presents a "paradigm shift" in moral theology.

The medical experts resist this notion in their letter, insisting "[t]here has been some confusion in some ecclesial circles and in the media for interpreting this as a change from the Holy See on these issues. But the position of the Catholic Church has not changed."

The group points Catholics to Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae, in which he warns against the pernicious assimilation of contraceptives into Catholic morality.

The critics further point out, the anti-life proposal is contrary to the experience of marriage and is not true pastoral care.

The experts posit, as predicted in Humanae Vitae, that six decades of widespread contraception has destroyed the family and caused great suffering for women.

Before leading the Pontifical Academy for Life, Abp. Paglia commissioned a homosexual artist to paint a blasphemous homoerotic mural in his cathedral.
