DETROIT (ChurchMilitant.com) - On the 100-year anniversary of Planned Parenthood, Catholics held more than 100 counterprotests across the nation. Church Militant spoke with the national organizers of the #ProtestPP rallies that took place on Sunday, October 16.
Mark Harrington, National Director of Created Equal, told Church Militant, "Prayer is vital; however, prayer alone is not enough. We need prayer and action."

Harrington explained, "Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger who was a eugenicist and racist."
His organization, Created Equal, was one of three co-sponsors of the #ProtestPP vigils and protests. Church Militant also spoke with head of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society Dr. Monica Miller, another co-sponsor.
Miller, author of "The Authority of Women in the Catholic Church," told Church Militant, "We didn't want the anniversary Planned Parenthood is celebrating to go unmarked." She continued, "There were six protests in Michigan alone."
Both Miller and Harrington shared comments about the upcoming election and the importance of pro-life action. Harrington, who is currently traveling the country sharing the pro-life message in battleground states, remarked, "Christians should be very prayerful and very active, especially in opposing abortion."
Miller commented, "Abortion is the first issue when it comes to social justice," going on to say we literally treat the unborn like "trash."
"This is the work of the Church," she added. "If the Church isn't doing it, you might as well forget it."
The national effort #ProtestPP has hosted four national events, with more than 70,000 pro-lifers attending the first rally in 2015. As of press time no major media outlets have covered the nation-wide protests.
