NEW YORK (ChurchMilitant.com) - A priest blasphemously preached that Christ is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer — and that all Christians are LGBTQ in Christ.
Last week, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in New York City, Paulist priest Fr. Rick Walsh offered a reflection that he titled "We All Belong to Each Other." The gist of his talk at the motherhouse of the Paulist order included:
Are they not aware ... Christ is a woman ... Christ is black. In Christ, I am also black. Once you belong to Christ, you belong to all others who belong to Christ as well. Some say that those of us who are LGBTQ members of Christ's body do not belong to the body of Christ, totally denying our baptism.
Are they not aware that we who are LGBTQ are also living now in Christ — that we are Christ. Christ is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer? In Christ, I am lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer. Once you belong to Christ, you belong to all others who belong to Christ as well.
Joseph Sciambra, whose Sons of St. Joseph website and blog is an outreach of authentic Catholic ministry to those carrying the cross of same-sex attraction, contacted Church Militant. He said, "Catholic LGBT advocates such as Walsh have been equating sexual orientation with race and ethnicity" for a while.
It is an error of deception, he explains, that is commonly utilized by advocates of sodomy to garner support from other communities that feel disenfranchised.
"While our racial or ethnic heritage is immutable and completely out of our control, there is no definitive evidence that has determined that sexual orientation is completely genetic," he says. "To equate the two is deceptive. Yet, in this disordered culture, it is unfortunate that even the Supreme Court has added to the confusion."
Out at St. Paul (OSP) is also a notorious lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender ministry at St. Paul the Apostle parish in New York City. It has a long history of ignoring Church teaching on these issues. Sciambra says their history includes "gay-affirmative pastoral practices and public statements in support of same-sex marriage."
The parish is backed by homosexualist priest Fr. James Martin. On his blog, Sciambra wrote, "Out at St. Paul is a favorite of James Martin." Sciambra further noted that Martin had addressed Out at St. Paul in 2017 and had posted pictures from the event to his Facebook account. Martin, he says, again recommended Out at St. Paul in 2017 on his official Twitter account.
Sciambra recounts what Martin wrote on his Facebook account:
Dear friends: "Out at St. Paul" is one of the most dynamic Catholic LGBT ministries in the country and probably the world. It is a ministry of the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York City, just next door to our Jesuit community. They shared this video with me and asked me to share it with you. May it give hope to parishes who are striving to be welcoming places for everyone.
This kind of anti-Catholic ministry has taken place under the authority of the archbishop of New York, Cdl. Timothy Dolan, who has done nothing to stop it. Father David Dwyer, host of SiriusXM Radio's Busted Halo, a ministry of the Paulist fathers, is in residence at St. Paul the Apostle. Cardinal Dolan has been interviewed regularly on his show, yet he has said nothing on the program about this ongoing problem.
As Church Militant reported back in 2018, OSP posted on its Facebook page an article lauding as a saint the openly homosexual activist Harvey Milk. Yet Milk had a same-sex relationship with a mentally disturbed 16-year-old, and was attracted to other adolescent males like him.
Unlike Joseph Sciambra's ministry and that of the authentically Catholic ministry Courage, OSP does not encourage the embrace of chastity for the kingdom of God. Nor does it encourage prayer and counseling so that the disordered attractions may be overcome. Rather, OSP affirms active homosexuals in their sin, to the detriment of their souls.
