DETROIT, MI, April 23, 2015 (ChurchMilitant.com)—ChurchMilitant.com has confirmed that Catholic Relief Services is stalling on taking action against one of its vice presidents in a same-sex “marriage”—and dozens of bishops aware of the situation are keeping quiet.
We reported Monday that Rick Estridge, Vice President of Overseas Finance and a CRS employee for 16 years, contracted a same-sex “marriage” with his male partner in 2013. According to our sources, this was a well-known fact at CRS headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland. Estridge also promoted gay activism and gay “marriage” on his Facebook page, which was yanked early Monday morning.
Monday afternoon, CRS issued a statement confirming Estridge is in a same-sex “marriage” and that the organization was “in deliberations on this matter.”
Thursday evening, we contacted Tom Price, Senior Manager for Communications at CRS. We asked what the result of the organization's deliberations are. In Price's words, “Nothing has changed. No further statement will be made.”
ChurchMilitant.com can also confirm that a number of bishops are aware of Estridge's situation, but are choosing to remain silent. Around 150 bishops and chanceries were e-mailed a report on Estridge Monday morning. As of Thursday evening, not a single bishop has publicly commented on the matter.
ChurchMilitant.com also reached out Monday to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops as well as to Archbishop Paul Coakley, Chairman of the Board of CRS, but neither has responded to our inquiries.
