Riots and homicides are on the rise in U.S. cities, and half of Americans believe city leadership is encouraging it.

According to a Wall Street Journal crime analysis released Sunday, homicide rates have increased by double digits in 36 of America's 50 largest cities this year.

The piece cites the destabilization of law enforcement institutions as the main factor, linking the destabilization to protests against police and authoritarian lockdowns.

Most voters believe government policies encourage violent crime in some cities, specifically by restraining law enforcement.

Multiple Democrat-led cities have experienced widespread violence and unrest in the past months owing to Black Lives Matter protests.

Democrat mayors, like Seattle's Jenny Durkan, Portland's Ted Wheeler and Chicago's Lori Lightfoot have also fought President Trump's decision to send federal agents into their cities in order to help control the leftist uprisings.

Jenny Durkan: "It is frightening that you would use federal agents for political purposes."

Ted Wheeler: "If we are not able to get the federal administration to back off and leave our city, it will happen all across the United States."

Lori Lightfoot: "What we will not tolerate and we will fight against is the deployment of unnamed federal special secret agents onto our streets."

Amid mounting social distrust and prejudice toward American law enforcement, the U.S. bishops have also remained silent on leftist violence —meanwhile, publishing numerous statements decrying racial prejudice.

But when contacted by Church Militant about their response to these troubling statistics, they declined to return our call.

With killing, violence and anti-Catholic sentiment ripe in the nation's cities, it appears that both the Democrat leadership and the U.S. bishops will stand by while left-wing radicals and criminals terrorize their streets.
