The pandemic is wreaking havoc on the daily lives of workers worldwide. The faithful pray each day for daily bread, but governments are putting a damper on that petition, getting people fired if they don't get vaccinated. Martina Moyski reports on how one Catholic governor is doing his part to stay the tide of government overreach.
Florida governor Ron DeSantis: "Your right to earn a living should not be contingent upon COVID shots."
The Catholic governor of Florida is not taking the federal vaccine mandates lying down. Thursday, Republican governor Ron DeSantis called for a special session to ban Biden's vaccine mandates — protecting Florida jobs and freedom.
DeSantis: "We need to take action to protect Florida jobs."
The governor spoke to a crowd of those most affected — police, firefighters, airline pilots and nurses who've been fired or whose jobs are threatened by the mandate.
DeSantis: "We have a federal government that's very much trying to use the heavy hand of government to force a lot of injections."
The special session, scheduled for November, is slated to discuss:
DeSantis warned about the encroaching nature of the mandates and how health care workers are being affected.
DeSantis: "Anybody that contracts with the federal government, they're imposing this mandate, and that is already putting thousands and thousands of jobs in jeopardy."
Patriotic attendees carried signs reading "Freedom has a home here." And they carried "Don't tread on Florida" signs with the Gadsden flag featuring an alligator instead of a rattlesnake — a meme setting social media on fire.
Last week, DeSantis threatened to sue the Biden administration over its anticipated vaccine mandate, predicting the mandate would lose in court.
