WASHINGTON, D.C. ( - Father Frank Pavone is admonishing everyone to get involved in ending abortion.

Church Militant spoke with Fr. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, on the eve of the March for Life about the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and how pro-lifers can help end the scourge of abortion.

Father Pavone suggested several simple ways that people can help keep the momentum of the March for Life going throughout the year. He encouraged everyone to be prepared to take personal steps to stop abortion. "I always ask that every person know off the top of their head where to point a person who needs alternatives to abortion," he said, recommending that people visit the website,, to find out the names and locations of pregnancy help centers in their area where a woman in a crisis pregnancy can turn. "Unless we can actually stop a particular abortion that we might know might happen, then abortion will just continue on and on," he explained.

He reminded people that women might not know help is available: "1-800-712-HELP is a hotline they can call ... just knowing that can save a life if we have the courage to speak up when we meet someone who is in need and might be tempted to abort." states that additional help can be found by simply texting "HELPLINE" to 313131.

Father Pavone recommended that people visit to not only connect with Fr. Pavone and other pro-life leaders but also to see how they are using graphics, hashtags and other tools to increase the visibility of the movement. Father Pavone also recommended that people sign up for "action alerts." Priests for Life and many other groups, including the March for Life, send out these alerts at key legislative moments making it quick and easy to send messages to legislators urging them to push for pro-life laws.

Father Pavone noted that we can't gain momentum in the pro-life movement to get more people to march, contact their legislators and even vote for pro-life politicians without waking up "sleeping consciences." He said, "people who have a functioning conscience will reject those evils." He used the example of the undercover phone calls Priests for Life and Abortion Free New Mexico are making to expose the lie that abortions are done to save the life of the mother. They have found over and over that abortionists all across America are willing to abort healthy babies from healthy mothers.

We accelerate the process by which truth is exposed.

"By playing these recordings to family and friends, even those who are pro-choice, most, if not all, of the people who hear of it will say 'I don't believe in that' — 'I don't believe a baby at 30 weeks, who's healthy and the mom is healthy, a baby that could easily survive outside the womb, should be allowed to be killed,'" Fr. Pavone said, adding, "We accelerate the process by which truth is exposed."

He told Church Militant that Priests for Life played these recordings for legislators, and they were used in the debates about the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. This bill has passed the House and if the Senate passes it, it would protect babies after 20-weeks gestation who can feel pain from being aborted. Science has shown that reactions of babies in utero from the experience of fetal surgeons and increases in stress hormones prove that unborn babies do feel pain. To abort them after that point without anesthesia is cruel and inhumane.

Father Pavone was correct in his prediction that the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would pass the House, noting, "We've encouraged the House to vote on this particular bill." He explained this bill supplements "a bill that was passed in 2002 and signed into law by President Bush — the Born Alive Infants Protection Act." Father Pavone explained this law made the distinction that once the baby was outside the womb, it was granted personhood and "that child is going to be protected by law." He explained that though the law gave rights to the baby born alive after a failed abortion, it did not provide for means of enforcement "if the abortionists were to kill that child outside the womb, and sadly, we know that many abortionists do that."

He said, "We, at Priests for Life, work with many former abortionists and abortion clinic workers, and we know time after time the story of them either leaving them to die or suffocating them or throw them in garbage bins or horrific. " He added, "Kermit Gosnell is in prison in Philadelphia for precisely doing that same thing."

"If choice prevails over life, well then, why should the fact the child who came out still breathing stop your choice from being implemented? It's the cruel, evil, logic of a very erroneous, destructive decision called Roe v. Wade," he said.

Father Pavone is urging all pro-lifers to find out how their legislators voted and contact them to either thank them or ask them why they did not vote for the bill. The Senate is expected to vote on the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act this Monday.
