WASHINGTON (ChurchMilitant.com) - American abortion giant Planned Parenthood might soon be under criminal investigation.

On September 28, Breitbart News reported that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has considered the option of investigating Planned Parenthood (PP) for illegally selling aborted babies' body parts.

On June 19, the FBI's Gregory Brower wrote to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee's chairman, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). The letter confirms that the FBI's Criminal Investigative Division (CID) received the criminal referrals and was considering an investigation. Although Brower wrote the correspondence in June, the Judiciary Committee never publicized it, so it was unknown to the public until Breitbart found the letter in the FBI's public online records.

In December 2016, the Senate Judiciary Committee referred several PP affiliates and biomedical companies to the FBI and the Department of Justice for criminal investigation. The referral was provoked by the undercover videos released by David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress (CMP).

The CMP videos, currently blocked by a court-issued gag order, expose the abortion industry for harvesting and selling aborted babies' organs and body parts. The videos, released in summer of 2015, permanently altered the abortion debate in the United States and helped spark a nationwide push to defund PP.

In the U.S. House of Representatives, the Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives submitted a similar referral in December.

Since it was established in October 2016, the panel has submitted a slew of criminal referrals, most involving abortion providers and associated biomedical companies.

Breitbart asked the FBI's National Press Office for comment. The response stated, "We don't have anything to add to the letter sent to a member of Congress. In keeping with our usual practice, we have no comment on whether or not we're conducting a particular investigation."

Breitbart also reached out to Sen. Grassley's office, asking if there were any recent developments in the story. Grassley's press secretary, Taylor Foy, responded, "The letter you linked to below is the latest we have on this matter."

Although it is impossible to know whether or not the FBI is actually investigating PP and biomedical companies like StemExpress, pro-lifers are glad that it seems a possibility.
