Joe Biden, even in his younger years, was unable to think through many of his foreign policy decisions. This, according to someone who used to work with him very closely.

Church Militant's Nadia Hazimeh offers insight into Biden's political track record and what a former top official has to say about him.

Obama's defense secretary, Robert Gates, is doubling down on his belief that Biden is a failure at foreign policy.

During 60 Minutes on Sunday, Gates was asked about his 2014 book, Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War, where he claimed Biden has "been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades."

Gates: "I think he's gotten a lot wrong ... He opposed every one of Ronald Reagan's military programs to contest the Soviet Union. He opposed the first Gulf War. That list goes on."

Three weeks after 9/11, Senator Biden wanted to send "no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran."

As Obama's VP, Biden was his point man on Ukraine — the goal being to safeguard the country against Russian aggression. Under Biden's oversight, Putin seized Crimea and Eastern Ukraine.

Biden also opposed the raid to kill Osama Bin Laden, having told Obama, "Don't go."

The Obama administration took part in the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal that funneled billions of dollars into terrorist groups. Earlier this year, Biden wanted to re-enter the deal after Trump scrapped it.

With such poor discernment regarding Arab nations, critics say it's not a surprise his Afghanistan withdrawal unfolded as it did.

Anderson Cooper: "But you think he made a mistake in Afghanistan in the way he handled the withdrawal?"

Gates: "Yes, yes."

That kind of foreign policy record in the recent past could have big implications for the nation in the years to come.

In not even a full year of his presidency (unelected), Biden has also welcomed illegal immigration, waived sanctions on Russia's Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline — thus increasing Russia's geopolitical strength — and continually ignores the growing threat of China.
