MT. ANGEL, Ore. (ChurchMilitant.com) - The Holy League is hosting it's second annual men's conference this October. The group is endorsed by Cdl. Raymond Burke, former prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and Abp. Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon.

Asked what he anticipates this conference doing for men, faithful Catholic and event organizer, James Thurman, told Church Militant he hopes it'll instill in each man "a sense of urgency and mission." The theme for this year's conference is "100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima vs. 100 years of Communism, 300 years of Freemasonry and 500 years of the Protestant Revolt."

Thurman related that according to Sr. Lucia, "The final confrontation between the Lord and Satan will be over family and marriage." He added, "This message should wake up Catholic men and impress upon them their mission to defend their families from the evil one."

The spiritual headquarters for the Holy League is in La Crosse, Wisconsin, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe and is blessed to have Cdl. Burke as their spiritual director. Archbishop Sample is a strong supporter of the Holy League, and this year's conference on October 21 and 22 will be in his archdiocese of Portland in the town of Mt. Angel, Oregon.

The Holy League conference seeks to fortify men with truth and grace and embolden them to fight for the salvation of their families and in defense of Holy Mother Church. The conference schedule includes Holy Mass, spiritual talks, confession, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary and Marian consecration.

Church Militant reached out to Thurman for his take on how this conference addresses what's been called the "man-crisis" in today's Church. "God and His Church need us to step up and be saints! We need to reclaim our masculinity as holy leaders for our wives, our kids and our local parishes," responded Thurman.

He wants men to be aware of the spiritual war raging in society today and to realize that if men don't fight with their spiritual weapons then souls will be lost.

Men need to leave this conference, knowing that if we don't pick up our spiritual weapons — frequent Holy Communions, regular confessions, Holy Hours and praying our Rosaries — we will have to answer to our Lord on Judgement Day as to why we didn't live up to our vocations as holy men for our families and our Church.

Thurman says he wants men to understand how much God needs them to rise up and be real men. "There is a man-crisis in the Church, and we will call them out on this," Thurman said. "Men need to understand that they need to step up and be the holy husbands, fathers, sons and grandsons that they are called to be for God."

The Holy League promotes certain spiritual objectives specifically for men:

  • Attend monthly Holy Hours in Churches with Eucharistic Adoration and confession
  • Pray the Rosary
  • Develop manly fraternity as a basis from which to fight their spiritual battles

This year's conference is a wakeup call for men to learn how much their families need them to fight and what their spiritual weapons are. Thurman told Church Militant, "If the men leave this conference knowing that they are soldiers of Christ and that Our Blessed Mother is our general on the spiritual battlefield of life, then we have done our job."
