WASHINGTON (ChurchMilitant.com) - The lead U.S. House panel investigator into Planned Parenthood's practices is making another request for a federal investigation into the abortion giant's trafficking in aborted baby parts.
In July 2015 the Center for Medical Progress began releasing a series of undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood personnel allegedly selling body parts of aborted babies for profit — a practice that is against the law.
Head of the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives — Rep. Marsha Blackburn — says the information the panel recently reviewed is "appalling."
Fox News is reporting that Blackburn spoke of a January 2015 email in which an employee of StemExpress replied to a potential customer, speaking of an abortion about to happen, "There is one case currently in the room, I will let you know how the limbs and calvarium [skull] look to see if you are able to take them in about fifteen minutes."
Soon after the employee responded "the calvarium is mostly intact," while "the limbs ... are totally intact."
Members of the Energy and Commerce Committee (E&C) and the House Judiciary Committee launched investigations the same month while the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform began its own investigation a month later.
Ongoing investigations have shown Planned Parenthood and StemExpress — a California-based company — has likely violated several laws, including patient privacy laws. Planned Parenthood had allowed StemExpress access to its patients' records — a violation of federal law — in order for the tissue procurement company to determine the gestational ages of the unborn children so they could choose which babies could be used for which organs.
In September 2015 the Oversight Committee concluded Planned Parenthood is not in need of federal money. The report stated Planned Parenthood made $1.3 billion in revenue in 2014, with 41 percent of the total coming from taxpayers.
Since the publication of the investigative videos there has been a massive call to take federal funding away from Planned Parenthood. Eleven states have cut off funding altogether or have severely limited money going to the abortion giant.
Planned Parenthood's supporters have come out en masse to try to limit the damage, in particular Hillary Clinton and President Obama.
Last Friday in a speech to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund Hillary Clinton called abortion a constitutional right.
In January President Obama vetoed the Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act (HR 3762), which would have denied Medicare funding for Planned Parenthood.
The House tried to override the veto but was unable to get the necessary two-thirds vote.
