Democrat senator Chuck Schumer: "You take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you. So even for a practical supposedly hard-nosed businessman, he's being really dumb to do this."

One of President Trump's original campaign promises is being fulfilled. Since the beginning of his presidency, he's taken on the deep State, but it's been a long and difficult fight.

In the run-up to the 2016 election, President Barack Obama illegally spied on members of Trump's foreign policy team. As soon as Trump got in office in January 2017, a host of Obama administration holdovers began to leak information and disinformation to the press, compromising national security.

Trump's national security director, Gen. Michael Flynn, got sidelined by FBI head James Comey, deputy director Andrew McCabe and chief of counterintelligence Peter Strzok — all accusing Flynn of collaborating with Russia during the election.

Finally, in May, after almost three years, the U.S. Department of Justice dropped the case against him, saying "The government has determined, pursuant to the principles of federal prosecution and based on an extensive review and careful consideration of the circumstances, that continued prosecution of this case would not serve the interests of justice."

Trump: "I'm very happy about general Flynn. He was treated horribly. What happened to Gen. Flynn should never happen again in our country."

The Russian collusion narrative and Department of Justice investigation by Robert Mueller were other efforts by the intelligence community and the Democrat Party to oust Trump.

The infamous Steele dossier by known-British ex-spy Christopher Steele, was funded by Fusion GPS and paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign. In fact, Steele told the FBI he was contracted by Fusion GPS and "Democratic Party associates" to produce the dossier knowing "the ultimate client were (sic) the leadership of the Clinton presidential campaign."

In October, it was reported that if Trump wins re-election, he will immediately fire FBI Director Christopher Wray, CIA Director Gina Haspel and Defense secretary Mark Esper. Haspel has been blocking the declassification of documents exposing the FBI's investigation into the Trump campaign.

While the fight against the deep State has been bitter, the public is seeing more and more just how effective Trump has been at draining the swamp.
