INDIANAPOLIS, April 27, 2015 (ChurchMilitant.com)—The Indiana State Council of the Knights of Columbus are refusing to defend Catholic teaching on marriage.
This past weekend, while a reception was being held at Knights of Columbus Hall in Madison, Indiana for a lesbian wedding reception, the state organization was simultaneously gathering in Indianapolis to conduct a vote on how to treat the issue of renting their halls for gay weddings and receptions.
When Church Militant.com broke the news earlier this year about Madison Council #934 renting the hall for a lesbian reception, a firestorm broke out in the Catholic social media world. Thousands of faithful Catholics voiced their opposition, and many called the council headquarters insisting the lesbian reception be cancelled and any deposits returned.
The gay propaganda machine shifted into high gear and made the case a national one by posting the story on numerous homosexual-friendly sites. It was in the middle of this controversy that the Knights held their state meeting this past weekend — while the lesbian reception was also going on in Madison.
In what many see as a complete collapse in the face of homosexual propaganda, the convention refused to back a resolution:
(1) clearly and publicly declaring support for the teachings of the Catholic Church on marriage as described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church;
(2) Adopt and administer a policy consistent with teachings of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to provide councils with guidance as regards the rental of or use of halls and other facilities owned by or affiliated with the Knights of Columbus; and
(3) Take all necessary legal steps to defend these policies in accordance with the free exercise of religion clause of the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
Given the options to adopt the resolution, reject the resolution, vote no action on the resolution or refer the matter to State Officers, the Knights voted “no action,” thereby refusing to support Catholic teaching at a critical point in the national and state-wide debate.
Sodomite marriage became legal in Indiana last October when the US Supreme Court let stand a lower court ruling that held that a previous state ban on sodomite marriage violated the US Constitution.
The US Supreme Court is expected to announce its ruling on the constitutionality of sodomite marriage early this summer.
To recap, Church Militant.com has confirmed the much-protested lesbian wedding reception at the Madison Knights of Columbus (Council #934) Hall did occur this past Saturday as was previously planned.
