HUNTINGTON WOODS, Mich. (ChurchMilitant.com) - On Saturday, the public library in Huntington Woods, a small Metro Detroit neighborhood, became the place where LGBT activists confronted pro-family Christians protesting the Drag Queen Story Hour.
It's part of the latest effort by activists to normalize the sexualization of children and indoctrinate them in gender ideology, pushed in over 20 cities across the United States, as well as Puerto Rico, Sweden and Japan.
Over 200 activists organized by the Metro-Detroit Political Action Network, a progressive-Marxist organization, gathered to protest the presence of Mass Resistance and Warriors for Christ, along with a handful of other Christians present objecting to the sexualization of children.
A group of Catholics assembled in front of the library to pray a Rosary, but it's not long until the LGBT activists arrive and warn the crowd to stay away from the Church Militant news crew, calling them bigots.
The scene was quiet until Gabriel Oliver of Warriors for Christ denounced the counter-protesters.
Rich Penkoski, spokesman for Warriors for Christ, traveled from Tennessee to be present at the event.
He commented, "The point of this event is to promote the fluidity of gender. They are trying to indoctrinate children."
He went on to add, "Events like this lead to what we saw last week with that 10-year-old little boy posing with a naked drag queen, and two weeks before that, a boy stripping at a gay club. That's what this leads to. Our country is being led down the road of pedophilia."
He continued, "There's no reason a three-year-old should be introduced to any sex-based lifestyle yet, they're three, they're four, they're five — they're kids. Leave them alone. Stop pushing your agenda on these children."
The event had been held at the library since December 2017, but attention was brought to it after City Commissioner Allison Iverson commented, "I know there is a desperate need for people to understand and accept people that are different." She continued, "I believe using 'drag queens' as a means to aid in this process is a mistake. Children are innocent little beings and we, as a society, should be banding together to preserve that innocence for as long as possible."
While the city claims the event is a "literacy-promoting" event for children, a document handed out to members of the press also maintains, "The idea behind the program is to 'capture the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and give kids glamorous, positive and unabashedly queer role models.'"
After the event, the Metro-Detroit Political Action Network issued a "Victory Proclamation," claiming Warriors for Christ and other protesters were there to "accost children, their parents and Storytime's hosts: Joyce Krom and Miss Raven Divine Cassadine," calling them "forces of hate."
It also thanked Planned Parenthood and Ferndale Pride "for their promotional and logistical support" and a host of local LGBT activist organizations including the Trans Sistas of Color Project, the Gender-identity Network Alliance and the Motor City Sisters — a local chapter of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Also included was the Southeast Michigan John Brown Gun Club — an armed communist organization also known as Redneck Revolt. Several members wearing black with red handkerchiefs were identified among the counter-protesters.
Steve Zimberg, a Huntington Woods resident, spoke to Church Militant, calling the event "a political stunt meant to provoke people, not simply a cute and adorable program teaching literacy and diversity." He added, "Parents are sacrificing their children on the altar of progressive superiority and it needs to stop."
The city comments that it plans to continue the program, claiming widespread support from residents.
But until more residents step up and call out the event for what it is — the sexualization of children — it will continue to spread the LGBT agenda to impressionable young minds.
