The fact that Theodore McCarrick has been defrocked means little as his network of bishops he promoted are still in power.
It's becoming clear in the wake of Rome's so-called sex abuse summit that the Vatican is not intending to out the homosexual network tied to McCarrick. Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò put names and faces to this network in his testimony last August.
One of those prelates tied to McCarrick was Cdl. Kevin Farrell, current head of the Vatican Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life. Calling out Farrell by name in his August testimony, Viganò said:
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, who was recently interviewed by the media, also said that he didn't have the slightest idea about the abuses committed by McCarrick. Given his tenure in Washington, Dallas and now Rome, I think no one can honestly believe him. I don't know if he was ever asked if he knew about [Fr. Marcial] Maciel's crimes. If he were to deny this, would anybody believe him given that he occupied positions of responsibility as a member of the Legionaries of Christ?
During the interview last July to which Viganò referred, Farrell admitted that he had lived with McCarrick for six years but knew nothing of his homosexual predation of seminarians.
"I was shocked, overwhelmed; I never heard any of this before, the six years I was there with him," Farrell said.
Viganò said he had a hard time believing Farrell owing to the fact that Farrell had told The Irish Times in 2016 that he barely knew homosexual predator Fr. Marcial Maciel, founder of the Legionaries of Christ. This claim was gainsaid by the facts that Farrell was not only a member of the Legionaries but also held high-level positions in Maciel's group.
What's more, Church Militant has further learned from eyewitness accounts that Farrell had an overnight meeting in Washington, D.C. with Maciel in August 1995.
