The modernists in the Vatican are nothing if not devious, and they are already setting a trap. The bait is the Pope. When orthodox Catholics raise questions about the machinations surrounding the Synod, the modernists pounce and declare he is an enemy of the Pope. The modernists' plan is to turn Catholics' instinctual loyalty to the Holy Father against them by painting orthodox prelates as opponents of the Pope, forcing ordinary Catholics to choose between the two. It has already begun: Cardinal Wuerl and Abp. Cupich have given interviews where they use this tactic.
