Homosexuality is intrinsically disordered. The word "instrinsic" means an essential part of the thing itself. Homosexuality, by the very fact it exists, is disordered, the same way any inclination to sin is disordered. The teaching of the Church throughout the centuries has remained clear and unambiguous. Homosexuality has no place in God's plan for the family.
But many of the Synod Fathers — most notably Bp. Johan Bonny of Belgium and Abp. Mark Coleridge from Australia — want to tone down that kind of language. Other bishops, however, think that doing so will make the Church's teachings more vague and ambiguous. In the end, it's all coming down to the word "intrinsic."
So why are some officials in the Church so desperate to remove that word?
