Father Frank Pavone: "He's protecting us with his leadership in this coronavirus crisis. He's protecting the right to life like no other president has ever done so effectively."
Those were the words earlier this month of Fr. Frank Pavone, the head of Priests for Life, on a livestream announcing the launch of the Catholics for Trump campaign coalition.
Father Pavone is a member of the Catholics for Trump advisory board, as well as co-chair of the Trump 2020 campaign's pro-life coalition.
He attributes his involvement to threats like abortion and religious liberty, telling the Catholic News Agency (CNA), "Anybody who doesn’t see that the survival of church activity and the survival of America — not to mention the tens of millions of lives of children — depends on re-electing the president, they've got a problem."
Some have accused Fr. Pavone of dabbling in politics. Asked about his canonical situation, Pavone clarified to CNA he is under no canonical penalties and has transferred from the jurisdiction of the diocese of Amarillo, Texas to the authority of a different bishop who remains unnamed.
Many faithful Catholics share Fr. Pavone's concern that the safety of the unborn and freedom to practice the Faith hinge upon the outcome of this year's presidential election.
