FLINT, Mich. (ChurchMilitant.com) - Vice President Mike Pence delighted a crowd gathered at Bishop Airport in Flint, Michigan, Wednesday night. Among several other issues, Pence discussed such topics as the COVID-19 pandemic, the rebounding economy, rebuilding the military and racial relations.

He waited until he was nearing his allotted time, however, to address the two issues of most concern to American Catholics: religious freedom and abortion.

"We're going to keep protecting the vulnerable," Pence said. "We're going to keep saving lives," he continued, addressing the pandemic specifically while setting the stage for discussing the plight of the Little Sisters of the Poor and the unborn.

"The choice in this election has never been clearer," the vice president added. "The stakes have never been higher."

Really at Stake: 'Whether America Remains America'

Asserting former vice president and Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden is a "Trojan horse for the radical Left," Pence asserted the United States' "economic recovery is on the ballot. I think law and order are on the ballot. But I also believe there are things more foundational to our country that are on the ballot."

He observed:

It's not whether the country is more Democrat or Republican, more liberal or conservative, or more red or more blue. I think the choice in this election is whether America remains America. It's whether we're going to chart a course for our children and our grandchildren with a renewed commitment to freedom, patriotism, family, faith and all the principles that made this country great.

Warning the far-Left would direct the country into an inexorable decline, he added: "Here in Michigan you need to know that when Joe Biden was vice president, we saw a steady assault on religious freedom of Americans," he affirmed.

"The last administration actually hauled a group of nuns into a federal court to force them to compromise their faith and live under the mandates of Obamacare," Pence noted.

The stakes have never been higher.

Speaking in front of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, Pence recounted Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing for the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals: "And not long ago, when Judge Barret was going through her confirmation two years ago, the leading Democrat on the Judiciary Committee [Sen. Dianne Feinstein] expressed the same religious intolerance that we've seen from so many in their party."

He explained Feinstein's concern about Barrett was over her devout Catholic faith: "She said, and I quote, 'the dogma lives loudly within you.' And Hollywood elites started attacking Judge Barrett ... ."

Pence added:

Well I've got a message for the Democrats in Washington and their friends in Hollywood, that dogma lives loudly in me, that dogma lives loudly in you, and the right to live and work and worship according to the dictates of our faith lives loudly in the Constitution of the United States of America.

Pence noted the Trump administration not only has appointed judges to uphold U.S. religious freedoms, but also restored the conscience rights of doctors, nurses, religious charities and organizations. "It was President Donald Trump who ended the legal assault on the Little Sisters of the Poor and the Supreme Court made it permanent," he said.

The vice president also noted the Biden-Harris ticket supports taxpayer-funded abortions up to the moment of birth.

"I couldn't be more proud to serve alongside a president who stands without apology for the sanctity of human life," Pence said.
