DETROIT (ChurchMilitant.com) - Former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is leaving the Democratic party, and Americans from both sides of the aisle are responding.

Following Tuesday morning's announcement on The Tulsi Gabbard Show, many Democrats say they're glad she's walking out.

Jon Cooper tweeted, "Hallelujah! Putin a**-kisser Tulsi Gabbard is finally leaving the Democratic Party. With luck, she'll move to Russia. Good riddance, traitor!!!"

Cooper and many others were referencing a 2019 story where Hillary Clinton suggested Gabbard is a "favorite of the Russians" and is being groomed by them to be an asset. In the last year or so, Gabbard has also drawn attention by commenting on the Russia–Ukraine war, with many defining her as pro-Putin.

Another tweet claims she's just doing this for a bigger paycheck: "Like Trump did years ago, she leaves the Democratic party because she can make more money on the other side."

A young woman tweeted, "I think it's imperative that reasonable people stay in the democratic party. I disagree with your decision but it's yours to make." Someone responded saying she missed the point, arguing that the party is no longer reasonable.

Many Dems are hoping more 'Democrats in name only' follow suit.

And many Dems are hoping more "Democrats in name only" follow suit. One tweeted, "If you thought Tulsi Gabbard was a Democrat you better sit down before I tell you about Kyrsten Sinema." Another person replied, "Don't Manchin it." These two have also been known to side with Republicans on certain issues and maintaining the filibuster.

Some conservatives are excited and happy that Gabbard is officially making a change. Lavern Spicer exclaimed, "It's about time, girl! We all knew this was coming since 2020! WELCOME." To clarify, Gabbard did not say she was joining the Republican party.

Gabbard has a history of flip-flopping on various issues, including abortion and LGBT so-called rights. And many aren't surprised that she flopped right out of her formally socialist ideology.

In the first episode of her podcast on Tuesday, Gabbard laid out some reasons for her decision:

I can no longer remain in today's Democratic Party that's under the complete control of an elitist cabal of war mongers. Who are driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoking anti-white racism, who actively worked to undermine our God-given freedoms that are enshrined in our Constitution, who are hostile to people of faith and spirituality, demonize the police, will protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, who believe in open borders, who weaponize the national security state to go after their political opponents and, above all, were dragging us ever closer to nuclear war.

But because of her history, some Republicans are weary of a potential merger, calling it a trap.

Will there be an exodus of Democrats in the final days leading up to the midterms? If there is, it could spell huge gains for Republicans. But if the wrong ones join, then it runs the risk of watering down the party with RINOs.
