WASHINGTON, DC, April 28, 2015 ( - As the Supreme Court heard oral arguments today on the constitutionality of banning same-sex pseudo-marriage, they were also met with a disturbing cry from the audience: “If you support gay marriage, you will burn in Hell!”

A man sitting in the courtroom had begun shouting biblical condemnations at the top of his lungs. “The Bible teaches that if you support gay marriage you will burn in Hell for eternity!”

The audio can be heard here, beginning just after 27 minutes. A lot of the shouts are too loud to be understood in the recording, but the words “Hell” and “abomination” stood out.

Within seconds, the man was forced out of the room. One person who recorded it from the hallway outside tweeted a video of some security guards' reactions.

Following a few moments of stunned silence, Justice Antonin Scalia joked that the incident was “rather refreshing, actually” — to audience laughter.

One observer noted that the message was “excruciatingly loud.”

An attorney responding to the event wrote on his legal blog, “I'll put it this way: I can't imagine any of the justices who favor same-sex marriage being dissuaded by the gentleman's suggestion that they will burn in Hell.”
