As crime, health mandates and leftist ideologies are seeping into communities across the nation, individuals and families are looking for new homes and new communities — in new states. Church Militant's Aidan O'Connor takes a closer look at why Americans are relocating and to where.

America's landscape is changing, as many grow tired of climbing prices and overreaching mandates throughout the nation. Many families are choosing to move, fleeing liberal-dominated states and flocking to conservative states with less intrusive policies.

The Economist recently published an article on the growing migration, revealing a decades-old trend of fleeing high taxes and heading to warm states in the South and Southwest. Now, however, a critical incentive beyond weather or taxes is driving Americans from their homes.

Church Militant spoke with David Theisen, Director of Real Estate for Life, a multinational company connecting pro-life home-seekers with realtors and professionals who share their faith and values.

David Theisen: "Today, it's different; it's a flight to freedom. It's trying to get to high ground and go to places where I can homeschool without being harassed and I can live my life without a nanny state."

Theisen revealed the number of applicants calling his company has more than doubled in the last two years. A common message he hears is "I know where I want to leave, but I don't know where I want to go." However, certain states are more attractive than others.

Theisen: "Bottom line up front, everyone is trying to get out of the East Coast, West Coast and Illinois, and they're flooding into the center of the country and Florida."

Theisen works mostly with Catholics and called what he is seeing a "great Catholic migration."

Theisen: "A flight to freedom is a key, and half of it. The other half is the flight to Catholic communities."

Many bishops across the United States are in lockstep with politicians, religiously enforcing government mandates on their flocks.

Whether it is because of being denied Mass and the sacraments or a malaise festering within the hierarchy, Catholics are seeking traditional Masses and parishes. Theisen pointed out most relocating Catholics are looking for a traditional community like The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter or the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.

Conservatives in and out of the Church — and even some Democrats — are searching for change. This mass migration raises the question: Have liberal ideologies in the Church and State accomplished anything but an exodus of the faithful?

Critics are hoping Democrats who are fleeing crime-ridden cities and overreaching policies realize it's their own votes that helped create those same socialist climates they're running away from now.
