DETROIT (ChurchMilitant.com) - Following dozens of unwarranted attacks on pro-life centers, House Republicans are giving hope to justice seekers.

Steve Scalise

Catholic House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) recently outlined several pro-life bills and vowed that the 118th Congress will tackle them within its first two weeks of meeting on Capitol Hill.

According to CompassCare Pregnancy Services CEO James Harden, "It sends a huge message from the House of Representatives that the government's job is to protect people." The Buffalo-based pregnancy center was bombed in June, The Washington Times recently reported.

Scalise revealed one of the "commonsense" pieces of legislation is a resolution that stipulates that Congress should

  • Condemn recent attacks of vandalism, violence and destruction against pro-life facilities, groups and churches
  • Recognize the sanctity of life and the important role pro-life facilities, groups and churches play in supporting pregnant women, infants and families
  • Call upon the Biden Administration to use all appropriate law enforcement authorities to uphold public safety and to protect the rights of pro-life facilities, groups and churches

The Biden Administration has yet to arrest a single person or implicate a solitary group responsible for committing any of the 230 attacks against pro-life centers and Christian churches last year. Most instances of arson, assaults, vandalism and threats were carried out in the months following the Supreme Court's ruling in June that overturned Roe v. Wade.

The DOJ has repeatedly "demonstrated clear and illegal hostility."

Pro-lifers and other concerned Americans note the federal government's conspicuous hypocrisy. Last fall, the FBI arrested more than a dozen U.S. citizens who peacefully protested outside of abortion mills, in hopes of rescuing innocent lives facing annihilation. In the well-publicized arrest of Mark Houck, a Catholic father of seven, immediate reports indicated that the FBI raided his home SWAT-team style, traumatizing his children.

News Report: Facing Charges

Houck was charged under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE) for an altercation that transpired while he was demonstrating outside of a Planned Parenthood in Philadelphia in 2021. Last month, Houck's attorneys filed a motion in court to dismiss the charges brought against him, calling the U.S. Department of Justice's prosecution of Houck "unconstitutional." The motion also claimed that the DOJ has repeatedly "demonstrated clear and illegal hostility" towards Houck and other Americans who hold pro-life views.

While the attacks on life-affirming centers and churches have slowed in recent months, they've hardly stopped. Alaska Watchman reports that the night before Thanksgiving, vandals spray-painted nine large phallic images on St. Andrew Catholic Church near Anchorage. It marked the second time in six months the church was attacked.

A week and a half later, abortion activists disrupted the annual banquet for the Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center in Washington, D.C. The activists screamed obscenities, with one woman yelling, "That is all blood on your f*****g hands, every last m***********g one of you."

FBI Director Chris Wray

Less than three weeks ago, not far from Church Militant's studios near Detroit, perpetrators spray-painted "pro-choice" messages on the outside of a pregnancy center and graffitied the home of one of the center's board members. And just this week in Oregon, in an attempt to obscure a hotline number that women can call to receive help, someone sprayed the message "Kill Them Kids" on a pro-life billboard

Those who advocate for life and freedom of religion are questioning how such blatant attacks can continue, seemingly undetected by law enforcement, in light of the FBI's recently espoused commitment to investigate and prosecute such crimes.

In November, when asked to address accusations of politicization involving pro-life issues, FBI Director Chris Wray told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, "Now, we have quite a number of investigations, as we speak, into attacks or threats against pregnancy resource centers, faith-based organizations and other pro-life organizations."

How has "a number of investigations" resulted in no arrests? It's a fair question, but it's one that pro-life leaders and churchgoers may have to put on the back shelf, as they await the House Republicans who care about life issues to finally come to their aid and help the unborn.
