A strategic front is developing in the Left's takeover of education. America's public schools and many Catholic schools are being overwhelmed by gender identity policies. Church Militant's Kristine Christlieb describes the forces aligning to capture children's minds.
Betsy DeVos: "This administration continues to side with the teachers' unions and their demands and their desire to control everything."
Trump's former secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, is confirming the government wants to parent your children. The current school crisis centers on teaching critical race theory. But looming on the horizon is a sinister coalition promoting gender identity politics. This is the false idea that sexual identity is self-defined, an individual choice based on feelings.
Mary Rice Hasson, director of the Catholic Women's Forum: "Under the Biden administration, we have pressure coming top-down from the Department of Education to the state-level departments of education, to teacher organizations, to advocacy groups, really reinforcing the idea that sex should be interpreted to include gender identity."
Psychology Today reported on a study of 250 families with teenagers reporting gender dysphoria. The study found:
On the basis of these findings, the study's chief investigator, Lisa Littman of Brown University, identified a novel condition she called "rapid-onset gender dysphoria." If students exploring gender identity turn to school authorities with their questions, parents are likely to never know until it is too late.
Remarkably, there's a worse scenario.
Hasson:
The school policies themselves say that the school is entitled to initiate a conversation with a child. In other words, a child may not have expressed any confusion at all, and someone from the school is going to reach out and raise this issue about their identity. Are they comfortable being a boy or a girl? Can the school "help"?
The radicalization of American schools has gone beyond promoting political ideas and is now targeting a student's sexual identity, going so far as to secretly counsel confused students or even to initiate such conversations.
Arlington, Virginia bishop Michael Burbidge has responded to gender confusion by producing "A Catechesis on the Human Person and Gender Ideology."
