The apparitions of Our Lady at Fatima are not relics of the past. When the Mother of God comes down to earth with something to say, it's important to everyone at all times.
But the Fatima message is even more important because it's speaking about what's happening right now in the world. It would only be at the final apparition, on Oct. 13, 1917, that the heavenly Lady would describe herself as the Lady of the Rosary.
At the first apparition, she commanded "Pray the Rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war." She was speaking of World War I, which would claim more lives than any war in history up to that time.
The Rosary is a constant theme during her apparitions, with Our Lady also asking for prayer and penance for the conversion of sinners.
At the third apparition, Our Lady revealed to the three young children the horrors of Hell, telling them, "You have seen Hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace."
She further requested, "Sacrifice yourselves for sinners and say many times, especially when you make a sacrifice, 'O Jesus, this is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.'"
And again in her fourth apparition, Our Lady demanded "Pray, pray much, and sacrifice for sinners, for many souls go to Hell because there is no one to sacrifice and pray for them."
There were in total three apparitions to the children by the guardian angel of Portugal, six apparitions by Our Lady and several private apparitions from Our Lord and Our Lady to both Jacinta and Lucia.
Every Catholic should read and meditate upon the messages, because if the Queen of the Angels comes down from Heaven to tell people something, then people would do well to listen to her.
