WASHINGTON ( - The president-elect's candidate for secretary of defense is saying Obama's social engineering in the military, which has opened combat roles to women and enlisted open transgenders, must be stopped.

California congressman Duncan Hunter spoke out recently against President Obama's measures in the military, which Hunter affirms has "cut down on the warrior mentality."
An outspoken member of the House Armed Services Committee, Hunter wants Donald Trump to remove women from open combat roles in infantry and special operations while banning transgenders from service altogether.
Last December Defense Secretary Ashton Carter opened up combat positions to women in the infantry and special operations for the first time in U.S. history. Hunter said Trump should follow the recommendation of Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who wants Carter's decision reversed, citing studies showing co-ed units are consistently inferior to all-male groups.
Praising Gen. Dunford for his many tours of combat, Hunter said, "Probably the smartest person in the military, period, and he said leave special ops and infantry out of it. What's happening now is, again, we're taking our eyes off the ball and going down on these side roads."
Hunter continued to dismiss the idea of women in combat roles. "It doesn't do anything to further our capacity as war fighters. It doesn't do anything to make us more effective or efficient at getting the job done and killing our enemies and protecting our allies. It's just a distraction."
President-elect Trump went on record last December against females serving in roles of combat. "You're in there and you're fighting and you're sitting next to a woman, and now they want to be politically correct. ... And, as you know, there are many people that think this shouldn’t be done, at a high level, at a level of general."
The next policy Hunter wanted nullified was the Pentagon's decision in June opening the military to those who present themselves as transgender. The Pentagon went so far as to issue a manual detailing the military's role in providing sex changes for such personnel who may request it.
Hunter denounced this policy.
Ridiculous. Overturn it immediately because it doesn't make any sense. How does that help you fight and win wars? That's what I think Trump is going to bring to this — some common sense. Period. Having transgender operations paid for by the U.S. taxpayer is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of because it doesn't do anything to help America project power or to fight and win its wars. Nothing. There's no upside to it whatsoever.
Trump's transition team has its eye on Hunter as possible Navy secretary or secretary of defense.
