EL PASO, Texas (ChurchMilitant.com) - Using the Wuhan virus as justification, a Texas bishop wants some illegal immigrants released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) centers, while "Squad" members like Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ayanna Pressley want illegal immigrants to receive taxpayer money.
"I'm calling on our local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency to urgently and quickly prioritize the release of nonviolent migrants from the immigration detention facilities in our community," said Bp. Mark Seitz of the El Paso diocese in a recent statement.
"Faith and reason tell us that the right thing to do right now is to protect each other by taking steps toward social distancing," he continued. "The federal government has already recognized that this is very nearly impossible in facilities like prisons and detention centers."
Using the Wuhan virus to push the same liberal agenda, co-sponsor Ocasio-Cortez and other Democrats — including most of the far-left "Squad" of freshman House members ― are introducing a bill to amend the $2 trillion CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act) so that illegal immigrants can also receive federal money.
Ocasio-Cortez decried the CARES Act in a tweet, calling it "inhumane" and saying the "checks will be cut off the backs of *taxpaying immigrants,* who get nothing."
What Trump + Senate GOP have done is hold hospitals, working people and the vulnerable hostage so they could get in $500 billion (that will be leveraged into $4T) in corporate welfare.— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) March 26, 2020
Without the Wall St giveaway, GOP refuses to fund hospitals & unemployment. It's inhumane.
The Squad —Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley — are all cosponsors of the bill to give illegal immigrants money, with the exception of Pressley.
But Pressley is like-minded, having shared her thoughts on the matter with MSNBC on Tuesday.
"We need to center the humanity of every individual family and workers, and that includes not leaving behind undocumented and uninsured," she said.
"We're focused right now making sure the CARES Act in its implementation is one that is in urgent need and mitigating the hurt that so many of our families are experiencing — all of our families are experiencing right now," added Pressley.
It has been reported that many U.S. Catholic bishops are bedfellows with the Democrats, parroting Democrat liberal talking points and pushing the same agenda — the bishops in the name of faith and the Democrats in the name of progress.
Under the banner of faith, Seitz promotes what one author calls "an American version of Marxism" based on racism, speaks out against President Trump on the border wall and raises money for migrants seeking asylum.
In his statement on releasing some illegal immigrants, Seitz mixed faith with the pandemic to push the same agenda he has been pushing for some time.
"Our faith compels us to welcome the stranger with compassion," he said, adding: "And this is also a matter of public health."
He claimed failure to act on his call to release some illegal immigrants puts everybody at risk: "By keeping non-violent migrants in immigration custody, we are placing everyone in danger."
Calling on local government to join him in "calling on ICE for an urgent dialogue on the need to release non-violent offenders," Seitz ended his statement with a repeat of his dire warning, "Our lives depend on it."
Church Militant reached out to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for comment but received no response as of press time.
