Our Lady of Champion, previously called Our Lady of Good Help, is the only approved Marian apparition in America, and you can join fellow Catholics in a pilgrimage to the shrine honoring the apparition.
Church Militant Resistance members in Reno, Nevada, will be participating in this Saturday's upcoming Walk to Mary Across America.
On Saturday, May 6, faithful Catholics will embark on a pilgrimage to Mary, walking from the National Shrine of St. Joseph in De Pere, Wisconsin, to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion in Champion, Wisconsin.
Those wishing to participate locally have organized their own Walk to Mary events to occur in conjunction with the walk to the shrine.
Reno, Nevada, Resistance Captain Ginger Peacock took the initiative to set up the walk in her area. Local walks are also taking place in San Francisco, California, and Apex, North Carolina.
Ginger says of the apparition:
What motivated me to try to spread the word about this particular apparition is that I was touched by how simple and local it is. I have visited places where Mary appeared all over the world and loved and appreciated them all. But this one is ours. She seems closer to my life and the people of this country than any other because she chose to appear here.
The National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion website gives a history of the apparition.
In 1859 in rural Wisconsin, Our Lady identified herself as the Queen of Heaven to Adele Brise, a young Belgian immigrant, saying in part, "Gather the children in this wild country and teach them what they should know for salvation."
She also promised, "Go and fear nothing. I will help you."
In 2010, Bp. David Ricken declared the apparitions "worthy of belief" by the authority of the Catholic Church, and in 2016, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops designated the grounds as a national shrine, making it the first national shrine in the United States with an approved Marian apparition.
