VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) - The Vatican is updating the public on Pope Francis' condition after the pontiff was rushed to Rome's Gemelli Hospital yesterday for chest pains.

Matteo Bruni, the director of the Vatican Press Office, announced this morning:

His Holiness Pope Francis rested well during the night. The clinical picture is progressively improving and the planned treatments continue. This morning after breakfast, he read some newspapers and went back to work. Before lunch he went to the little chapel of the private apartment, where he gathered in prayer and received the Eucharist.

The 86-year-old pontiff has had some health issues in the last few years, including surgery for diverticulitis in July 2021 and knee complications.

Church Militant will continue to monitor the situation as it develops.
