DETROIT (ChurchMilitant.com) - A new Rasmussen report shows that Americans on the whole no longer trust media fact-checking, with conservatives more skeptical than liberals. Fully 88 percent of Trump supporters say media skews the facts versus 59 percent of Clinton supporters.

Following the first presidential debate, multiple online polls showed Donald Trump won the debate in the eyes of the people. Among millions of votes at CNBC, Fortune, TIMES, Slate and CBS New York, among others, polls show Americans believed Trump won by a wide margin. Political pundits from various mainstream media, however, were near-unanimous in asserting Hillary Clinton was the clear winner.

The Rasmussen Report survey was conducted September 28–29 following the first presidential debate.

Church Militant completed our own fact-checking of the first presidential debate, and found:

  • Clinton claimed the murder rate in New York City has been falling, but a New York Times article posted only weeks ago titled "Murder Rates Rose in a Quarter of the Nation’s 100 Largest Cities" reveals the opposite.
  • Clinton claimed that the U.S. economy was doing well and experiencing a recovery, but Harvard Law graduate Peter J. Ferrara revealed in an August 2016 study that under Obama's economic policies there was "stagnating economic growth and low job creation, declining middle-class wages and incomes, soaring poverty, and rising inequality."
  • Perhaps the other most talked about issue at the debate was Trump's stance on the Iraq War. Whereas many liberal media websites claim he was always in favor of war it seems Trump flipped back and forth. A 2003 Fox News clip show Trump saying "perhaps we should be waiting for the United Nations."
