WASHINGTON (ChurchMilitant.com) - Vice President Mike Pence addressed the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. Friday, offering a plea to protect the unborn while demonstrating gentleness and kindness.

Pence, the first vice president to attend the March for Life, was introduced by his wife, Karen, who commented they have been present at many of these marches over the last 16 years. "I have not met anyone who has more compassion for women, children, and the American people," she said.

When Vice President Pence took the stage, he commented that life is one of the inalienable rights along with liberty and the pursuit of happiness: "Forty-four years ago our Supreme Court turned away from the first of these timeless ideals."

Life is winning again in America.

"But today, three generations hence, because of all of you and the many thousands who stand with us in marches like this all across the nation, life is winning again in America," he continued.

"That is evident in the election of pro-life majorities in the Congress of the United States of America, but it is no more evident, in any way, than with the president of the United States," he said.

"President Trump asked me to be here today. He asked me to thank you for your support, for your stand for life and your compassion of the women and the children of America."

He reminded listeners that Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy on January 23 and has promised to work with Congress to end taxpayer funding of abortion and abortion providers and devote the funds to health care for women.

He went on to remark that Trump will nominate his candidate to the U.S. Supreme Court "who will uphold the God-given liberties enshrined in the Constitution in the tradition of the late and the great Justice Antonin Scalia" — drawing loud applause and cheers from the massive crowd.
