Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, a self-identified "practicing Catholic," supports abortion, gay "marriage" and many other evils diametrically opposed to Church teaching.
Biden's shortcomings go beyond his inherently immoral stances in politics. His economic policies, for example, have proven disastrous.
In 1991, Biden backed a bill that would renew "most-favored-nation" trade status for communist China. China, because of its many human rights violations, wasn't at that time afforded the coveted trade status. But Biden spearheaded an effort to reverse this policy, and in 2001, the United States granted China its long-sought permanent trade status. Since then, the United States has lost nearly 4 million jobs to China.
But in addition to claiming to be a champion for the middle class, Biden claims to be of service to the black community. However, in 1994, alongside Bill Clinton, he drafted the biggest crime bill in American history, which many argue led to a wave of incarcerations that disproportionately affected minorities. To this day, the bill is highly controversial among Democrats.
Bill de Blasio, the Democratic mayor of New York, has called the crime bill "a huge mistake." Kamala Harris, a top contender to be Biden's running mate for the 2020 election, agrees with de Blasio. She once lamented that the 1994 crime bill "contribute[d] to mass incarceration in our country."
Biden has proven to be a poor example of a Catholic, but his presidency, should he win the White House in November, could well be an even bigger wreck.
