A historic church in Hawaii has survived the horrific fires that have devastated the surrounding town on the island of Maui, despite initial reports to the contrary. Video taken by some residents who were allowed to return to the town gave proof that Maria Lanakila Catholic Church was still standing and unscathed amid the smoldering rubble of the town of Lahaina. The parish of Maria Lanakila, in English meaning Our Lady of Victory, was founded in 1846 by priests of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Mary and Jesus who arrived on the island. Read more
