On Feb. 15, 2004, Fr. John Minkler was found face down on the floor of his kitchen in Watervliet, New York. It was two days after a tense meeting with Bp. Howard Hubbard, in which they discussed a damning report authored by Minkler exposing corruption in the Albany diocese. While the coroner claimed suicide, too many questions remain about his abrupt death to make that conclusion certain.
