A Godly Alternative to Pride Month

Eden Invitation takes courage

June 7, 2021  0

Shannon: "I was really confused because I identified more with being a boy. I wanted to do what they did. I wanted to act how they acted."

Eden Invitation is a Catholic ministry of young adult laity dedicated to serving those with same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria.

Anna: "Error No. 1, that love requires wielding truth like a hammer, and error No. 2 would be that authentic love means hiding truth's challenge."
Instead, Eden Invitation does what its name indicates — it invites people to reflect on the love of God and the natural order of creation.

When I was in  high school, I began to experience romantic desires for the same sex. ... [But] I had communities that were welcoming me in my vulnerability, and they were offering me accountability. I was able to encounter the teachings of the Church, the personalism of [Pope St.] John Paul II, and to know that my deepest identity was as a daughter of God.

This month of June, the ministry is providing special opportunities for discussion groups to talk about faith and human sexuality.
Eden Invitation follows in the footsteps of Courage International, a Catholic apostolate celebrating 40 years of helping people with same-sex attraction live out their vocation in Christ.

Narrator: "The Courage apostolate has grown and spread to include chapters in two-thirds of the dioceses in the United States, in Canada and Mexico, and in a dozen other countries."
Courage International understands Christ won for humanity the power of grace to overcome challenges, to live out the truth.

Garrett: "My perception of what is and isn't loving is so distorted from having exposed myself to pornography and having lived this lifestyle for so long. But slowly, God is purifying me, healing me in ways that I didn't think were possible."
Both ministries stress the importance of community and friendship and want people to know they don't have to follow the world and the flesh into the pit of despair, which is where unruly human nature, wounded by original sin, wants to go.

Bob M.: "God loves me and has given me a Church to help me have a happy life. It's not to deny me sexual pleasure. It's in order to open me up to be a happier person."

For this month of June, the choice is clear: Follow the Church's tradition that dedicates June to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, or be led by the world to celebrate Pride in following Adam's rebellion against God.
