Judges Side With Freedom

On Friday, the Michigan Supreme Court sided with a barber fighting against state lockdown orders.

77-year-old barber Karl Manke reopened his Owosso, Michigan barbershop.

Manke: "I just want to work. I just want to open my business, and be able to support myself and support my family and pay my bills."

In opposition to executive orders issued on March 24 by Democrat Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer — closing all businesses deemed non-essential and putting the state's barbers and hairdressers out of work and driving many to financial ruin — Manke cooperated for six weeks. But after applying for unemployment and being refused three times, he reopened his business.

Acting under orders of Whitmer, the same woman on the short list for a possible vice-presidential nod from Joe Biden, the state Department of Health and Human Services declared his barbershop "an imminent threat to the health or lives of people in Michigan." 

Liberal-activist Michigan attorney general (AG) Dana Nessel — a public lesbian — issued a restraining order blocking him from accessing his business.

A week later a Shiawassee County judge rejected the restraining order, resulting in the vengeful Whitmer pulling Manke's operating license.

The governor's action was an attempted end-run around the court's rejection of the restraining order — a fact recognized by the state Supreme Court. 

Manke's attorney David Kallman: "This is pure retribution by the governor's office and by the AG." 

Thousands of people came out to support Manke, giving generous tips for haircuts and paying his legal bills, but the Marxist Left continues to demonize Americans just wanting to get back to work.

Manke: "I've got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel."
