‘Red Rose’ Triumphant

Court exonerates pro-lifers

September 21, 2021  0

On Friday, four pro-lifers with the Red Rose Rescue were vindicated in court. They were arrested in 2020 for trespassing, but, as Church Militant's Trey Blanton reports, the prosecutor's case was not convincing.

Judge Jennifer Faber: "City of Grand Rapids versus Monica Marie Miller — your verdict, juror?"

Juror: "Not guilty."

Prosecutors for Grand Rapids, Michigan failed to prove Dr. Monica Miller or her fellow pro-life activists had actually violated all elements of the law. Neither the abortion clinic nor police officers on scene recorded video of the abortion workers allegedly telling anyone with Red Rose Rescue to leave.

The failure of the police, in this regard, violated city policy requiring them to record their interactions with the public.

Robert Muise, defense attorney with American Freedom Law Center:

Thomas Aquinas, in his treatise on law, famously stated that any law that is contrary to the natural law, which is objective and knowable, is no law at all; it's violence. Laws that degrade human dignity like the Jim Crow laws in the segregated South that were protested by Martin Luther King were not just laws, they were violence.

The abortion facility Heritage Clinic is owned by Thomas Gordon, whose violent inclinations aren't limited to the preborn. Gordon is convicted of several violent assaults — including against his wife, who claims Gordon has even put a gun to her head.

Dr. Monica Miller: "We try to end the violence of abortion with acts of love in the Red Rose Rescue, that we performed, and, God willing, we'll have an opportunity to do it again."

Civil disobedience is easy when you're fighting for your own rights. Fighting for the innocent lives of others requires great fortitude, which Red Rose Rescue exemplifies.

Most states recognize a "defense of others" statute which allows citizens to commit a crime to prevent a greater crime. Courts do not recognize this defense, however, for those trying to stop the murder of the preborn.
