Resisting CRT

Is it even legal?

June 24, 2021  0

Opponents of critical race theory are pushing back on every front. Parents, legal theorists, state attorneys general and state legislatures are all resisting. Kristine Christlieb takes us to the latest battlefront.

Parents spontaneously burst into singing the national anthem Tuesday night when the Loudon County, Virginia School Board voted to end public comment. While the focus for that night's meeting was pronoun usage for transgender students, the same board has made national news for promoting leftist critical race theory.

The debate over this Marxist worldview is in a district located right outside the nation's capital. Former Virginia representative Dick Black spoke out against the controversial worldview and the crowd erupted.

Black: "They caught you red-handed with an enemies list to punish opponents of critical race theory. You are teaching children to hate others because of their skin color. And you're forcing them to lie about other kids' gender. I am disgusted by your bigotry."

The board ended public comment, called police to declare an unlawful assembly and an arrest was made. Across the country, Americans are pushing back against the race-based lens that is itself racist.

Dr. Carol Swain, former professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University: "Critical race theory itself divides the world into oppressors and oppressed. And in the United States, all White people are considered oppressors who benefit from undeserved advantages. And they are deemed guilty of having set up a system of systemic racism."

Swain believes teaching critical race theory may even be illegal.

Swain: "The Civil Rights Act of 1964 — in particular Title VI — bans discrimination on the basis of race, and a lot of White people don't realize they are covered by civil rights acts."

Attorneys general in more than 20 states have proposed laws banning the teaching of the racist theory. While this battle for young minds is being fought in classrooms, the Marxist war to divide and conquer the West is being waged in the private sector and in various institutions, including the government and armed forces.

Last month, Space Force lieutenant colonel Matthew Lohmeier was relieved of duty for speaking out against Marxism and critical race theory.
