Supreme Court Upholds Catholic Rights

Children protected from LGBT parenting

June 18, 2021  0

The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously declared the government cannot force Catholic adoption agencies to place children with LGBT couples. Church Militant's Trey Blanton has the latest.

In a slam dunk, Catholic Social Services (CSS), located in Philadelphia, won its case Thursday before America's highest court.

Chief Justice John Roberts, a Catholic who has at times gone against conservatives, wrote the majority opinion.

Roberts said, "[I]t is plain that the City's actions have burdened CSS's religious exercise by putting it to the choice of curtailing its mission or approving relationships inconsistent with its beliefs."

Fox News reporter: "It's a rather inconvenient time for critics of the court to hear these justices speaking in one voice; this is supposedly an ideologically divided and hopelessly dysfunctional court. President Biden referred to it as 'out of whack.'"

The adoption agency was denied a contract with the city in 2018 after a local newspaper attacked the Catholic organization for practicing its faith and refusing to adopt out kids to gay couples.

Kristen Waggoner, general counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, spoke on the client's victory, saying, "Every child in need of a forever home deserves the chance to be adopted or cared for by a foster family. That's what it means to keep kids first. The Supreme Court's decision today allows that to continue happening."

The anti-Catholic hate group ACLU supported Philadelphia in its case, with its deputy director dog whistling the case, saying, "If the court opens the door to discrimination based on a religious test, it would be devastating for millions of people who rely upon critical government services."

The Supreme Court however has left the door open, with its narrow ruling, to allow Philadelphia to contest the issue again. No word, as yet, whether the city will. Given the stridency of the LGBT movement, it wouldn’t come as a surprise.

Christians have been regularly attacked in court by leftists. This case, no doubt, will come under challenge again.

The High Court ruling follows precedent protecting Christians' conscience and not forcing them to cooperate with leftists.
